Expectations

From whom does one have an expectation? Generally it is from self, children, spouse, colleagues, teachers and friends etc. Based on conditioning there will be some expectations set, where one is expected to have moral values, be rich, and be successful and so on. These expectations are set by parents, competition amongst siblings, peers and experiences during the growing years and beyond. Obvious is the influence of parents but in a subtle manner the other factors also come into play. When we become aware of these factors, one needs to re-evaluate these expectations and set reasonable expectations from one’s own self; else we may land up being unhappy trying to satisfy unreasonable expectations. My cute little nephew

My brother and sister-in-law's baby boy was born day before yesterday and I eagerly rushed to the hospital in the evening to see my nephew...   As I looked into the face of my nephew, time stood absolutely still, I forgot everything and saw only the wonder in front of me, I was smiling so much and was filled with such selfless joy that reflecting on that moment now, I can understand what enlightenment could probably mean, it would probably be a permanent state of such joy. I saw the most wonderful sight ever, the small little eyes which opened to look at us was filled with such pure innocence that it kindled a deep beautiful emotion in me. His tiny pink hand with the long slender fingers was like trying to create something in the air or maybe simple captivating us all with some magic in them. Cribbing and Complaining

Why do we crib and complain? Possible reasons could be Total absence of gratitude for what one is gifted with and taking for granted what one has, be it the ability to see , walk , talk etc., or having a family. Constant comparisons and thereby the need to prove that one is at par if not exceeding others. Need to control everything and everyone. To continuously prove one’s own greatness or self worth by emphasising on others faults. To ensure that all concerned know that one is working hard, this could happen in scenarios where the nagging person needs to be appreciated due to low self esteem and is receiving none. To feel a victim in life – the reason for which could be once again lack of self esteem, self confidence and lack of pride for what one does.
